So for me (and maybe Wilson) moving to Chicago is looking more and more like reality. So now I was wondering if the chicago crew would be willing to help me out with places to live.

Like, where do you all live (I don't need street address, just approximations), what is the general rent in your area, how safe are the streets, etc.

And if anyone would be willing to consider roommates, or know someone looking for roommates, I'd be willing to definitely consider it. I'm pretty clean, not noisy, and will probably be in school/at work for a lot of the time, so you'll probably have the place to yourself for most hours. Also, I don't steal food, and am really fucking chill about just about everytrhing. Seriously, I really don't care.

try not to be a cop who gets shot also keep alert and don't listen to your headphones while walking around
uhhh

so maybe logan square doesn't rule that much but it's $1025/month for a real big 2BR apartment with a full-size kitchen and heat included. soo.

Lakeview is the best!!! East Lakeview specifically. Tons of fun things to doo and much cheaper than Lincoln Park. My rent for a studio is $585 but that is the *absolute* cheapest you'll find- you're more likely to find $650 for a studio, $800 for a 1 bedroom, and so on.

AND LOCAL), we've got a cute (overpriced tho) flower shop, we've got a THREE DOLLAR MOVIE THEATER. that is currently showing HOTEL FOR DOGS. three dollar movie theater.

well we have like 4 that i can think of offhand, and a starbucks
but i was talking about the one that fuckin owns as opposed to the ones that are just like "well yeah that place is ok"

anyway logan square rules. we have a decent library branch, too, for what it's worth. i know there's libraries all over but still.

I'm in Wicker Park, soon to be in Ukrainian Village, and those two neighborhoods along with Bucktown combine to form the hipster-asshole capital of Chicago. It's pretty sweet. It's not the cheapest area of the city - I was thrilled to find a one bedroom for 790 - but there's a nice mix of neighborhood stuff and trendy stuff. Also, I don't know how much you care about this, but the architecture around here is fantastic (more so in the old apartment, less so in the new one). I really like being surrounded by attractive buildings. It's also reasonably safe here. I have no problem walking around in the dead of night to go buy cigarettes or something, although of course nothing is perfectly safe.

library branches are indeed the most important, though it's true they are everywhere.

well! logan square is totally up and coming and awesome, but I still don't think I could ever leave the lakeview area (that's a lie, I'm gonna have to in June. :-() I think also being so close to the lake does it for me, I'm only like 2 blocks away.

"up and coming" is the most dumbshit description of neighborhoods, man, what the hell, that makes it sound as if it not already a good place to live??? what is "up and coming" supposed to mean, people live here it's a good place

well, up and coming is code word for gentrification, which is happening in logan square right now. there are tons of arguments on whether that shit is good or bad or whatever... but I guess it brings in awesome coffee shops.

'Burbs representing! I live in Cicero, which, while technically a suburb, is merely an extension of South Lawndale.

There's a lot of bungalows around here, and most apartments are those three bedroom kind (judging by the architecture of the majority of the buildings), and it's easily to find a 3bdrm apt for around $800. The streets are pretty safe, or at least I've found them to be. I've lived here for 12 years and I've wandered all over town shit-faced at 3 in the morning, and I hardly ever saw anyone even out. There's a lot of cops out looking for ~*gang activity*~, though.

It's mostly hispanic, so if you like tacos Cicero is your town! Also, it's 15 mins from dwntwn via car, 30 via EL. ALSO! NO BUMS! Dominick has them secretly killed like Giuliani. Or dropped off in Oak Park, same diff...

So that's on the southside? I think wilson's aunt and uncle live out by there, so that's a plus.

Hmmmm, the rent thing means that one bedrooms are pretty cheap, but not super common then? Cause it'll probably be just us.

I was definitely looking at Wicker park area, since it would be close to me for school. And around 800 for a one bedroom is kinda cheaper then what I was expecting, although we'd probably go for a studio.

I'm sure you could find them, but yes, one bedrooms just aren't very common around here.

I was looking into apartments in Bridgeport (think the Wriglyville of the Southside) and you can get a totally sweet two bdrm for around ~$700 easily.

One of the things to keep in mind about this area is that you do not, under any circumstances, want to live west of Western. A lot of apartment lessors have fabulous deals in "West Wicker Park" or "West Bucktown" or whatever. There is a reason those nice big apartments are so cheap. Across Western is Humbolt Square, which is not terrible, but not very good, either. There is a lot more gang activity over there, although, like most gang activity, they mostly concern themselves with other gangs. That's not a guarantee, though, so if a leasing agent or someone tries to rent you an apartment, even a block or two over, keep in mind that in this city, a block or two counts for everything.

I live in Lincoln Park which is the fancysmancy expensive as all hell part of town. I like it a lot but am looking to move a little more north towards Lakeview/Boystown to save on rent. There's a bunch of stuff to do and the el is really close.
