Oh Noes!, LJ is being stupid again!

I'm assuming that most of my flist has heard about the recent Strikethrough'07 that is going on. From what I know, a online blog called Warriors for Innocence has now turned it's eye to lj, and is trolling in order to find communities and people that have "unsavory" interests, like child porn, incest, etc.

While I understand the worry about the handful (four or five) comms that were actually devoted to the disgusting kind of stuff, most of what's been deleted were RPG and fandom comms. Even [livejournal.com profile] lolita07 was deleted, and that was a spanish comm for discussion of Nabokov's novel Lolita.

So we know that these people are simply reporting comms and journals based on interests and tags, not actual content. [livejournal.com profile] fandom_wank seemed to have the most up-to-date info on what's going on.

I urge all fic writers to back up their stuff because it's been heard that even comms and journals with one "questionable" fic can be deleted.

Legally, much of what is available here is Constitutionally protected, since you actually have to actively search for stories and comms, and a great deal of fic have literary and artistic merit, and so are protected. But since lj is (obviously) not part of the gov't, they can legally delete accounts, especially since the members of the victimized party can simply move to JournalFen or GJ and post there instead. Internet laws are blurry and barely existent at most, and hopefully lj will come around and not let themselves be bullied by overly crusading bloggers.

Here's a link to fandom_wank's post. I also recommend [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs, whom sent an email to WFI, and found some interesting facts about them. Liz's letter.

Well, I'm going to go celebrate getting a job and drive around and tell anyone on lj or any blog about the stupidity of this. Arrgh, lj is really getting good at doing the stupid recently.

Also, YAY!

I finally got Supernatural season 1 on DVD, which is awesome BTW. I'm leaving for New Jersey on Friday for my sister's graduation, and we might even get to visit New York again while we're there.

I've got a job for the summer, am mostly packed, and have awesome brownies. Man, is summer already a billion times better then school.

I really want to watch Star Wars again. Damn history channel for doing that special!
